Did your building department participate in Building Safety Month? If so, send us pictures of your event(s). Also, if your local government did a proclamation regarding Building Safety Month (or Week) let us know. Send a copy and we'll post it in the Did You Know section.

NEWS FLASH: if you are a contractor who needs CEUs for your CILB license before the end of August you may be interested in a class being put on by HBA May 29th and 30th. (Not all of these classes are approved for BCAIB credits.) Click here for more information: Contractor class at HBA
NEWS FLASH: several changes affecting building departments as of July 1st, 2012, will take effect as a result of the passing of SB 704. For a link to the bill text click here: SB 704 (One noteable change-- plans examiners and inspectors will now be required by law to identify the specific plan or project features that do not comply with code and also to cite the specific code section being violated when plan review or inspection is rejected)
NEWS FLASH: FS 514 was amended by HB 1263 and TOOK EFFECT April 27th. The change mandates that Florida's County and City Building Departments are now responsible for reviewing applications and issuing construction permits for public swimming pools under the Florida Building Code. Effective date for HB 1263 was 4-27-12 authorizing local government responsibility over construction and modification reviews for public swimming pools and public bathing places.

May 9th--Judith Hecker of the Department of Health presented a program on HB1263 that went into effect on April 27th giving full responsibility for plan review of commercial pools to buidling departments. Officers serve a term of one year in their position and, subject to vote of the members, move in consecutive years through the chairs from Chapter Director to Treasurer to Secretary to Vice-President to President to Past President.
Serving as an officer is a good opportunity to give back to and work towards improving the industry that provides your livelihood. Let an officer know if you are interested in serving. See our By-Laws in the "About Us" section for more information on requirements and duties of officers.
